Mr Eric Svetcov:

I am writing to you in response to your web article:Home Office Firewalls

You omitted two software firewall products with proven reliability:

ZoneAlarm (free) and ZoneAlarm Pro ($40), available at http://www.zonelabs.com/

ZoneAlarm is free and works well on Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000 with a minimum of end-user configuration and Internet know-how. It supports computers directly connected to the Internet and does not support ICS gateways.

ZoneAlarm Pro also works well on Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000 with a minimum of end-user configuration and Internet know-how. It is fully compatible with Windows computers running ICS gateways.

Using ZoneAlarm Pro and ICS, I am able to provide secure Internet access to clients on my home network. The clients I run include Windows 2000 Me on a Pentium II desktop, Windows 2000 Server on an IBM ThinkPad, Windows 2000 Professional on a Sony VAIO SuperSlim notebook, and Windows 98 SE on a Pentium 90 desktop, and any of my friends' notebooks when they visit!

Victor,

You are killing me.....I know that I have omitted Zone Alarm (see Brian Meverden and John Sauter's letters from September 28, Peter Roscoe and Scott La Pidus sent me notes on September 26, Lew Stead mentions he dislikes Black ICE Defender and prefers Zone Alarm on September 16, and lastly, Chris Ahlstrom sends a message that mentions Zone Alarm on September 5.

Boy, do I know I omitted Zone Alarm :)

Albert Boyle, a friend and former fellow contributor at Windows NT Systems magazine, has actually promised me a Zone Alarm review. In the meantime, please check out the previous Letters. Trust me, I already regret not including it among the listed products that I reviewed. I promise also that I will include Zone Alarm in my next roundup of home office firewalls.

I will now go climb back under the rock I came from...... :)
